Britannia Building Society is to insource its human resources (HR) and payroll IT systems as part of a strategy to improve internal processes.

The financial services firm will install an SAP human resources and database system by August this year when a five-year outsourcing contract with ICS comes to an end.

The mySAP software will manage employee records, pay and expenses processing for 4,400 employees at offices in Staffordshire, London, Bristol, Plymouth and 252 branches across the UK.

"As part of our PeoplePlus change programme employees are at the heart of our business," said Helen Bates, HR change manager at Britannia.

"As a result we are doing more in terms of performance management. But a lot of the systems were very paper-based, so we needed to put it in one place."

The SAP system will be installed by IT services firm Pecaso and hosted by managed services firm Attenda.

Britannia will consolidate a number of HR spreadsheets and databases into a single system.

"It will save time and free up people in the HR department, so they can strategically manage case work and give advice, rather than spend time number crunching," said Bates.

The building society will introduce further functionality later this year, including a manager and employee self-service portal.
